1. The best available introduction to Church History for the average Christian is N Needham (5 vols. thus far): 2000 Years of Christ's Power, available from the Metropolitan Tabernacle Bookshop, London.

2. P Schaff, of course, is a must, although more has been discovered now!

3. W Walker - A History of the Christian Church. Brief, but excellent!
